SAM registration status check
See whether a business's SAM.gov registration is active, the date it expires, and how many days are left to renew. Search by UEI, CAGE code or business name.
Free, with no SAM.gov sign-in. It checks 213,327 small business and SBA-certified registrations from SAM.gov's public data, last updated Oct 2, 2026.
Renewing your SAM.gov registration
You must renew every 365 days to keep your registration active, and it's free. Start when SAM.gov's first reminder email arrives, 60 days before your expiration date. That leaves room for up to 10 business days of processing and time to fix a problem, like a lost administrator or a mismatch with IRS records.
- Sign in to SAM.gov with the Login.gov account tied to your entity.
- Open your entity in your Workspace and choose to update or renew the whole registration.
- Review every section, update anything that changed (bank account, address, contacts, NAICS codes), and submit.
The full walkthrough, with what to do if you've lost access, is in how to renew your SAM.gov registration.
If a business doesn't show up
- Its registration isn't active yet. New registrations can take up to 10 business days, and a UEI on its own isn't a full registration. See how to register on SAM.gov.
- It lapsed some time ago, or it chose not to appear in SAM.gov's public search.
- It's a large business with no SBA certification, a nonprofit, a government body or a foreign company.
- It registered for grants only, not for contracts.
For the official status, sign in to SAM.gov. For help with a stuck registration, contact the free Federal Service Desk.
Get a reminder before it expires
A free FedReady account watches your expiration date and emails you 60 days and 14 days before it, and again if it lapses. The renewal itself still happens on SAM.gov. Create a free account.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check if my SAM registration is active?
Search your UEI, CAGE code or business name above. For the official record, sign in to SAM.gov and open your entity in your Workspace, which shows your status and expiration date.
How often do I have to renew my SAM registration?
Every 365 days. Renewal is free. SAM.gov emails your Entity Administrator 60, 30 and 15 days before your registration expires, and again on the day it does.
What happens if my SAM registration expires?
Its status becomes "Inactive Registration," and no awards or payments can be processed until you renew. Your UEI doesn't change, and once the renewal is processed your registration is active again.
How long does SAM registration or renewal take?
SAM.gov says to allow up to 10 business days for a registration to become active. If it has shown "Submitted" for 15 or more business days with no contact from the IRS or DLA, contact the Federal Service Desk at fsd.gov.
What do the SAM.gov registration statuses mean?
"Work in Progress" means the registration was started but not submitted, "Submitted" means it's being processed, "Active" means you can be awarded contracts, and "Inactive" means it expired without being renewed. A UEI on its own ("ID Assigned") isn't a full registration.
Do I have to pay to register or renew in SAM.gov?
No. Registering and renewing on SAM.gov is free. Companies that email or mail you about "renewing" for a fee are third parties, and some are scams.
