The Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District plans annual maintenance dredging of the Morehead City Harbor federal channel in North Carolina. About 310,000 cubic yards of shoaled material must be removed and placed at the Government-furnished ODMDS placement area offshore. This is a presolicitation with no set-aside, and the notice does not give a contract length or value.
Watch out for
- Specialized marine equipment. The job needs a dredge plus ocean certified barges, which is a significant equipment commitment for a small business.
The barges taking material offshore shall be ocean certified.
- Environmental work window. Mechanical dredging in the inner harbor legs is limited to a seasonal window, which restricts scheduling.
The environmental window for mechanical dredging in the Northwest leg, West Leg, East Leg, and Range C of the Inner Harbor
- No scow overflow in two legs. Banning overflow can slow production and raise cost in the West and Northwest Legs.
No scow overflow is permitted in the West or Northwest Legs.
