What Is a CAGE Code?

A CAGE code is a five-character ID the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) assigns to a business location that registers to bid on federal contracts.

CAGE code in plain English

CAGE stands for Commercial and Government Entity. U.S. businesses don't apply separately: when you register in SAM.gov, SAM.gov sends your data to DLA, which assigns the code. Foreign firms need a NATO CAGE (NCAGE) code before they register.

Codes are tied to a physical address, one per legal entity per location. P.O. boxes and mailbox-store addresses aren't accepted.

A CAGE code is separate from your UEI. Keep your SAM.gov registration active and make changes through SAM.gov, and your CAGE record stays current.
