AI summary Beta
NOAA's National Weather Service is doing market research for a commercial cloud-to-ground lightning data feed that delivers real-time lightning detections across the continental U.S. and overseas zones. This is a sources sought notice, not a solicitation: it only asks vendors for a short capability statement due 23 October 2026. The Government may later use the answers to decide competition and set-asides.
Watch out for
- Needs your own lightning detection network. The requirement is a live data feed from a ground-based sensor network covering CONUS, Alaska and Hawaii, which a small company without existing infrastructure cannot easily build.
A description of your commercial ground-based lightning detection network, sensor physics
- Tight accuracy targets. The notice sets strict location, timing, detection and false-detection performance numbers.
Location Accuracy: 1 km for 99% of the CONUS coverage zone
- Sources sought only. Responding does not lead to an award or pay for your time; the Government may never issue a solicitation.
or a commitment by the Government to issue a solicitation or award a contract
