The Federal Highway Administration's Central Federal Lands Division is soliciting a contract to replace the Holzwarth Culvert with a steel girder bridge in Rocky Mountain National Park, near Grand Lake, Colorado. Award is expected in December 2026 with completion by November 2027. The estimated cost is $700,000 to $2,000,000.
Watch out for
- Difficult site access. The site is reached on foot past a locked gate along a narrow road, and no construction access is allowed more than 100 feet west of the bridge, which complicates deliveries and equipment.
The Holzwarth Culvert Access Road is approximately 13’ wide with tight turns.
- Sensitive environmental and historic setting. Work is in a national park with sensitive resources and a historic site, so extra care and constraints are likely.
Temporary widening will be necessary to prevent truck off tracking on to sensitive environmental resources.
- High altitude and short season. Work at 8,900 feet elevation with a stream diversion may be affected by weather.
