NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support (Navy) plans to buy 2 distributing systems (NSN 7R-6150-015554509-ZR) for repair or modification. Only sources the Government has already approved were solicited, because the item is flight critical and the Navy lacks enough technical data to compete it openly. New sources must submit source approval information with their proposal.
Watch out for
Source approval required. The item is flight critical, so a new supplier needs Government approval, which can take longer than the award timeline. The time required for approval of a new source is normally such that an award cannot be delayed pending approval of a new source.
Limited to previously approved sources. Only the sources already approved for this item were solicited, so a newcomer faces long odds. Only the source(s) previously approved by the Government for this item have been solicited.
Government lacks technical data. The Government says it does not have enough usable data to buy from other sources, so drawings and specs may be hard to get. The Government physically does not have in its possession sufficient, accurate, or legible data
